Current Situation of Biomass Wastes
● Utility ratio
With the development of society, biomass waste is the more important of the derived substances, which includes crop waste, livestock and poultry waste, aquaculture waste, food processing waste and so on. According to statistics, the recycling rate of biomass waste is less than 8%, so where did the remaining 92% go? First of all, let's find out where the biomass waste comes from.
● Classification
Biomass waste can be categorized into three groups based on different sources:
(1) Municipal biomass waste.
Municipal biomass waste mainly includes household food waste, catering waste, municipal manure and urban sludge. At present, the proportion of organic waste such as food waste and catering waste in the domestic waste of large cities in China is large. There are certain disadvantages in using traditional waste treatment methods to deal with biomass waste. Direct landfill will produce a large amount of leachate, resulting in soil and groundwater pollution, and its anoxic environment also leads to a large number of greenhouse gases methane, (CH4), and in this way, the utilization rate of biomass wastes is also quite low, which is not in line with the principle of sustainable development. Furthermore, the composting waste faced the problem of bad odors, low fertilizer efficiency and transportation difficulties.
(2)Crop Waste.
There are many plant wastes, corn stalks, straw, rice stalks, cotton stalks and husks, wood chips, twigs, husks, bamboo, etc. are all plant wastes, and these plant wastes are often ignited directly, and once these plants are ignited, they produce gases that are harmful to people and pollute the environment. With the development of rural economy and the increase of farmers' income, coal, LPG and gas have entered rural households. Due to the large volume of straw and low energy efficiency, straw first became the object of replacement, about 20.5% of straw, abandoned and burnt in the field each year, produced a large number of CO, CO2, SO2, NOx and soot and other pollutants, seriously polluting the atmospheric environment. Additionally, the smoke also affected the safety of traffic and air transport, bringing great impacts on people's health and life.
(3)Livestock manure.
With the development of livestock and poultry farming, the production of breeding waste has increased year by year, at present, China's livestock and poultry manure reached 850 million tons, a large number of livestock and poultry manure and sewage brought about a series of problems, such as excessive pressure on the land load, soil and water pollution, airborne malodor and the spread of disease. Chemical oxygen demand (chemicaloxygendemand,COD) content in farming waste is high, and contains a large amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and other elements, which has become one of the important reasons leading to the deterioration of surface water quality and eutrophication. In addition, farm wastes contain ammonia, amine, hydrogen sulfide, indole, urates, pathogenic bacteria and insect eggs and other odor substances, which is the main factor causing increased air turbidity and affecting the health of humans and livestock. Pollution from farm wastes has caused great pressure on the ecological environment in China, and farm waste treatment technology has been the focus of research in related fields at home and abroad.
What is biomass waste?
(1)First, what is biomass?
Biomass is all kinds of organic matter produced through photosynthesis by green plants utilizing the atmosphere, water, land, etc., i.e., all organic matter that is alive and can grow is commonly known as biomass, which includes plants, animals and microorganisms. The generalized concept of biomass includes all plants, microorganisms, and animals that feed on plants and microorganisms, as well as the waste products they produce.
(2)Biomass waste is the waste generated from the production and consumption of human beings in the process of utilizing biomass, which still belongs to the macroscopic category of biomass, but there is a significant reduction in energy density and availability.
Why to utilize biomass waste?
Harm
● Biomass waste, as a kind of solid waste, is an environmental pollutant that people must deal with properly, and if it is not handled and disposed properly, it will lead to serious environmental pollution. Biomass waste is a potential threat to the regional water environment, atmosphere and soil environment. The large amount of malodorous gases generated by easily degradable biomass wastes under accumulation conditions is also one of the important influencing factors of air quality in its vicinity; the haphazard accumulation of biomass wastes will also cause serious soil environmental pollution. As the composition of biomass wastes is very complex, such as livestock and poultry manure containing a large number of pathogenic microorganisms or parasites, some industrial biomass wastes containing acids or heavy metals, urban sludge containing a variety of organic matter and Cu, Cr, Zn and other heavy metals, these biomass wastes containing a variety of pollutants will cause serious pollution to the soil environment if they are deposited or landfilled without treatment.
Recycling
● Biomass waste is also an important renewable resource and energy source. Reasonable and efficient resource utilization of biomass waste can not only make full use of biomass as a renewable and clean energy, but also has important significance for CO2 reduction.
How to utilize biomass waste?
Biochar product
A new biomass utilization solution, which is the biomass carbonization equipment, can effectively play an important role in the biomass waste recycling industry, and these wastes can be carbonized to get biomass charcoal.
Biomass charcoal is a solid carbonaceous material made from biomass material by dry distillation or pyrolysis at high temperatures. It is usually made from a variety of biomass raw materials (such as wood, straw, hemp stalks, corn cobs, rice husk, sawdust, wood chips, bamboo shavings, kernels, apricot shells, coconut shells, palm shells, walnut shells, sorghum stalks, twigs, shrubs, bark, sludge, coffee grounds, and other materials can be charcoal) in a closed high-temperature, low-oxygen conditions during the carbonization reaction.
Producing Principle
Biomass raw materials are pyrolyzed at high temperatures in a closed and oxygen-deficient environment, and finally biomass carbon is obtained after water cooling. During the operation of the equipment, the combustible gas produced is burned and purified in the combustion chamber, and the clean heat is transferred to heat the furnace as the heating fuel, and this forms a cycle of carbonization, which not only reduces the energy consumption of the carbonization equipment, but also ensures that the carbonization equipment can meet the standard of safe emission.
When providing users with the proposal of carbonization furnace, we will pay more attention to the user's local the environmental protection policy and offer the user's appropriate design of the carbonization process, in order to achieve the best carbonization effect and economic benefits.
Advantages and wide range of uses of biomass charcoal
(1)Biomass charcoal has the following advantages:
Biochar is a kind of carbon material made from biomass through pyrolysis or gasification, with good adsorption performance and stable chemical properties. As it is made from biomass as raw material, it is a renewable energy source and can be utilized for sustainable development, so it has the characteristics of renewabl and environmental protection, etc. Biochar has been widely used in civil and industrial development fields, such as barbecue, heating , soil improvement, metal smelting, environmental protection, new energy and other fields.
(2) Wide range of uses for biomass charcoal
● With the increasing awareness of environmental protection and the demand for sustainable development, the development prospect of biochar is getting broader and broader.
● First, the application of biochar in soil improvement has been widely recognized. Biochar can improve soil quality, increase soil fertility, and improve crop yields. At the same time, biochar can also adsorb harmful substances in the soil and reduce the risk of soil pollution. It has been reported that biochar has become an important soil conditioner and has been widely used in countries such as the United States and Canada.
● Secondly, the application of biochar in environmental protection is also getting more and more attention. Biochar has a highly efficient adsorption capacity and can be used to deal with environmental problems such as air and water pollution. For example, biochar can be used to adsorb harmful gases and particles in the air to improve air quality, and it can also be used to treat sewage, effectively removing harmful substances such as organic matter and heavy metals.
In addition, biochar has a wide range of applications in the field of new energy. Biochar can be used as a form of biomass energy for power generation, heating and other fields. It is of great significance to alleviate energy shortage and reduce environmental pollution.
● To summarize, biochar has a good development prospect. With the continuous progress of science and technology and the increase of market demand, the application fields of biochar will continue to expand, and at the same time will promote the development and innovation of related industries.
